UNDERSTANDING AND MEETING YOUR NEEDS

Before any new members join our sessions, we always like to have a chat and learn a little about you as a person, your needs and any specific support you might need to be able to take part in snow sports sessions.

This enables us to discuss and assess how we can best prepare for when you attend the session for the first time. It also helps to ensure that your first experience is a safe and enjoyable one.

Some examples of the adaptations we can make:

  • Using sit skis or ski karts either fully guided or with the skier using outriggers for people who cannot stand to ski.

  • Creating a quieter areas for a 1:1 session at a pace that works for the skier.

  • Instructors who are skilled and experienced at supporting people with a wider range of communication and learning support needs.

  • Use of equipment, involvement of family and others who know the person well, fun games, favourite interests and endless creativity to help people engage in learning to ski at their own pace.

  • Use of training bars and/or radios used for supporting blind or partially sighted skiers or skiers who need a bit of extra support.
